Corporate and charitable bodies give aid this Ramadan season
AS PART OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to help the less fortunate by reducing their burden during Ramadan Al Mubarak, Etiqa Takaful Berhad (ETB) in collaboration with the Islamic Aid Malaysia (IAM) and IKIM.fm held the ‘Imarah Ramadan – Bantulah Mereka Berbuka Puasa’, a charity programme to rejoice this fasting month.
According to CEO of ETB Sarawak, Tengku Saifuddin Tengku Zainal Abidin, the programme is part of the company’s annual charity event held to give out donations directly to charitable institutions eligible under the Etiqa Corporate Zakat Responsibility programme.
“Through the Etiqa Corporate Zakat Responsibility programme, we have helped more than 17 charitable insitutions and more than 1,600 orphans in Malaysia,” he said when officiating the event at Surau Miftahul Jannah, Kampung Muara Mongkos, Serian on July 12.
More than RM1.5 million is spent to provide meaningful assistance every year, in various forms, including cash, buildings, and facilities such as dormitories, classrooms, canteen, surau as well as equipments such as computers, educational tools. This programme is in line with ETB’s mission to humanise insurance and takaful.
In Sarawak, two venues were chosen for the purpose of this programme, including Kampung Kudei and Kampung Mongkos, where about 200 recipients consisting of poor single mothers, elderly, and people with disabilities (OKU) received donations in the form of food and cash worth RM50 respectively.
Recipients were also treated to evening meals to break their fast prepared by fellow volunteers from IAM and representatives from ETB as well as presenters from IKIM.fm.
According to President of IAM Zawahir Abdullah, they will also visit other states to meet the responsibility of distributing zakat donations to the deserving. He also called for more corporate bodies to emulate Etiqa Takaful Berhad in their efforts to nurture the spirit of caring and volunteerism among Malaysians.
To realise the mission of this humanitarian programme, ETB also welcomes donations from the members of the public and they can be contacted at 03-89485939 or 019-3973558 as well as through their website at www.iam.org.my.
