Learn about all things Teochew
Did the Teochew really come here 150 years ago? Who were their pioneers? What are the deities inside their historical and original temple? What food are the Teochew known for?
Join Friends of Sarawak Museum (FoSM) to learn more about all things Teochew.
‘All Things Teochew’, is the first installation in the latest series by FoSM called the Temple Talk@2, where they will choose two temples in a year, whether they belong to the Sikh, Buddhist, or Hindu communities, and let them talk about the history of their people, architecture as well as their festivals.
The talk will be held on Saturday, June 7 at the Teochew Association, No.30 J-K, 1st Floor, Jalan Tabuan (on the corner of Jalan Mathies) from 2pm to 4pm.
The talk will be delivered by the representative of The Teochew Association of Kuching where they will give a presentation about the history of the Teochew community, followed by a guided visit to Hiang Thian Shang Ti Temple, a valuable historical cultural Teochew building at Carpenter Street. Participants to the talk will have to use their own transport.
Members of FoSM and Sarawak Heritage Society will receive complimentary entries, while non-members will have to pay RM20 per person. Teochew refreshments (halal) will also be served.
Early registration is required as seating is limited. To register, please contact Atirah at 019-8323189 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
