A new way to enjoy your Fridays

ONE USUALLY HEADS for the main course first, but the beautifully decorated and colourful sweet treats at The Great Imperial Feast (TGIF) dessert station really drew my attention; so I probably spent a little too long hanging out at the dessert counter admiring how they looked before heading back to my table to enjoy the food.

If you can’t make up your mind on whether you wanted to eat local, Italian or Japanese food this weekend, treat yourself to the Imperial Garden Restaurant of the Imperial Hotel Kuching where TGIF’s buffet dinner serves up a great spread of Italian, Western, Asian and Chinese cuisine.

 

For those with a sweet tooth, don’t miss out on the bread and butter pudding covered in sweet, vanilla sauce topped with a strawberry slice or the blueberry butter cake.

 

My personal favourite however, was the chocolate served in a shot-glass with a cherry on top. It was very sweet without being too overwhelming. And since the desserts were served in bite-sized portions, you could treat yourself to every treat served at the dessert counter like the swiss roll, chocolate brownies, velvet cake, tiramisu, cheese cake, creme caramel, petit four, local and nyonya kueh, bubur kacang, ice cream and ais kacang.

One of the highlights of the dinner buffet was the sushi station where you can be entertained while waiting for your food; after picking out which sushi delicacy you want, you can watch the chef prepare it in front of you. Among those served at the sushi station was the chicken ‘karagae’, vegetable tempura, sushi and sashimi.

Aside from that, why not make a quick stop at the teppan station where minute steak, turmeric-marinated chicken slice and cajun lamb cuts are served or maybe the carving station where you can pick out a scrumptious roasted chicken and beef striploin?

If you’re into starting your meal with something light and pleasant, you can start with their cold dishes where they serve fresh seafood on ice like banana prawn, green mussel, crab and slipper lobster. Besides that, there’s also a variety of salad and ulam ulaman spreads, and assortments of kim chi alongside a great line up of dressings and condiments.

Diners may also enjoy other cuisines from the Asian station, the Teppan station, pasta and pizza station.

 

The TGIF opens from 6.30 pm till 10 pm every Friday and Saturday and the TTT (Tea Time Treats) from 1 pm till 4 pm every Saturday and Sunday are priced at RM89 and RM39 respectively nett per adult and children between the ages of 5 to 12 can enjoy 50% discounts.
