Love letters to Mothers on Mother’s Day
A HUNDRED YEARS ago in 1914, the 28th President of USA Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation creating Mother’s Day, the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honour mothers.
Although it is celebrated on different days in different countries – in Norway it is celebrated the second Sunday of February – the reason is still the same: to show appreciation to mothers.
Here in Malaysia, we still follow USA’s choice of day to celebrate Mother’s Day which this year falls on May 11.
We asked The Borneo Post SEEDS’ readers for their shout-outs to their mothers and here is what they have to say!
“My mom never helped me to finish my assignment or presentations during my studies, but every time when I heard her voice, especially in stress, she helped me a lot in comforting me. I succeeded because of her. She will always be my sweetheart. Happy Mother’s Day Mak, Sarimah binti Wahap”
“Happy Mother’s day nuk! There will never be enough words to express how much I love you!”
“Mom, you are our angel. You have worked so hard to raise us to what we have become. You have always watched over us and guided us throughout our lives. You have always given us encouragement to become better people, taught us to be good and respect others as you do.
You are so generous in giving your love not only to your children but also to others. You are kind, sweet and generous and that’s what makes you a lovely mother. You have such a strong spirit in whatever you do especially in helping others to succeed.
Until now, even though you are sick, and can hardly move around now, you still look after us, your children, through your prayers. You are fighting strong for your loved ones. You are selfless and to you making sure your children have happily succeeded in life is all that matters. I Love You Mummy. Happy Mother’s Day”
“You are the one person on this whole earth who understands me the most. Thank you for always being there when I needed you through all the good times and the bad. Dear mummy, you add love to everything you do. Thank you for always being there for me. Happy Mother’s Day Mummy”
“I learned on ways to love from you. Mom, you are the symbol of love. Words will never be able to express my love towards you. You are the best mom ever and I am very thankful to have you in my life. I Love You So Much Mom.”
“A mother of three, patient and caring. My mother is my pride and she’s my everything. She is very special to us because she bore the pain of delivering me and my siblings and still endures whatever happens in our lives, for as long as she is a mother. I am so proud of her and that’s what makes her the most special person in my life. Wishing My Mom a Blessed Mother’s Day as well as the rest of the mothers out there.”
“There can be no other that can replace you, Mom. You have raised both me and my brother well throughout your entire life. I am proud and honoured to have a mom like you. Thank you Mom, for everything. To the Woman I Adore the Most, My Mom, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, Lots of Love, Your Son, Lester”
“My mom might be small in size, but that doesn’t stop her from taking up a big responsibility in bringing me and my brothers up. She’s always there to care for us, always calling to check up on how we are doing when we are apart. I would like to wish my mom and all the mothers in the world a Happy Mother’s Day. Thank you for being there in our lives.”
“Through laughter, worry, smile and tears there was a sense of trust that can’t break a depth of love sometime unspoken between us because as mother and daughter, our hearts are one. No love is greater than mom’s love. Happy Mother’s Day, Mak, I love you so much.”
“You are my miracle, mom! The backbone of our family without feeling tired. Your tears are often not visible in front of me but you often just smile and it makes my days. You are the queen of my heart and for me; you are the most beautiful woman on earth. I love you so much Ibu! Happy Mother’s Day!”
“We miss you mom! To our mum who raised us well, believes in us and loves us unconditionally, here’s to you. Happy Mother’s Day!”
Sekarang ibu dah berusia genap 60 tahun. Teringat zaman kanak-kanak.
Aamiin. Watie sayang ibu selama-lamanya.”
“Today is Mother’s Day. I am sure every mother is celebrated by their beloved children. Some will give gifts; some would bring their mothers out. But for me, every day is Mother’s day. Every day is Mother’s Day.
I believe, every child in this world, says that their mother is the best woman. True, a mother is a person that understands us the most, a person that loved and loves us that never disappoints us.
To my mother, Hajah Masniah M Salleh, “I love you so much”. You and Father are the people I need the most in this world. I feel special this year, because I am given the chance to give this dedication.
Now you are already 60 years old. I remember how throughout my childhood you were always working to help father to bring us up to be successful… our family has been through a lot. Nevertheless, Alhamdulillah all of us have grown up and become successful. Some of us even have families of our own. Hopefully, we will be more successful, happier and accepted together with our beloved families, my siblings.
For Ibu, I want to say thank you for everything. Everything that I have done to repay you for your sacrifice, won’t be enough for you have raised me, provided for my education. I am sorry for my mistakes. You have never taught me to do ill upon others. Whatever happens to me, is from my own mistakes. I hope that you always pray for me. Thank you for being there when I am sad. In shaa Allah, we will be together for the rest of our lives and in heaven too. Aamiin. I love Ibu forever.”
“My mother may not be the kind of mother who knew everything to teach her girl; who was the cool kind that give her daughter some tips to deal with men or the kind who talked about make-up and new fashion with me. My mother, during the time I was growing up, was working to her best ability to help father to provide for the family. She’s the mother who sacrificed her beauty to go into the bushes for midin to earn a decent living, the mother who sacrificed her quality time to ensure she earned enough to help father in raising us, the mom who would always forgive and love her children regardless of any flaws.”
“The first time we met in person, that moment when she came into this world, was the most magical experience I had ever felt. I knew right away that my life was going to change and I knew it was not going to be easy but I was already falling so deeply in love that I made a promise I would go through thick and thin, joy and tears to make sure she has all the love she needs as she grows up. Seven years have passed, we have gone through everything together and nothing can ever explain the love that we have for each other. For me, it’s the greatest love.”
Love between mothers and their children is indeed the greatest love.
Happy Mother’s Day to all mummies out there!
