Bike race turned into a family fun day out
By Patricia Hului
It was meant to be a usual bicycle race but it turned into a fun day for families who attended the Borneo Post International Education Fair (BPIEF) 2014.
In between races and while waiting for the official results, adults and children alike were seen cycling around 1st level of the Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK).
Part of the BPIEF activities required cyclists to answer a quick quiz in the middle of racing.
The most fun part of the race for me was watching these young racers clenching their teeth as they raced to win the competition. It was almost like the Olympics for them.
From competitors to friends, most of them were seen talking to each other and cycling together after the race ended.
The parents who came were undeniably supportive of their children, cheering the kids on while they were racing.
Koko Krunch Bear also dropped by and visited the cyclists during the competition. Not just children, even adults grabbed the Bear for a photo op.
The Bicycle Race category was divided into three main categories; Group A (age 7-9), Group B (age 10-12) and Group C (age 13 and above).
Group A first place was Ching Kai Shan, followed by Karen Tiong in second place and Ken Lim Yu Fan, third.
In Group B we saw Ho Kiu Shiang rose as champion, followed closely behind by Melvin Lee. Syed Arsyad came in third.
Meanwhile, the group C category champion was Ho Kiu Chern, followed by Jessie Tan as first runner up and Kenny Lim as second runner up.
Every participant happily took home a hamper sponsored by Nestle.
