Chill out on International Womens Day

Thank goodness for the fine weather in Kuching on Sunday, March 9 where members of the public were able to enjoy a day chilling out at the Kuching Amphitheater.

In conjunction with International Women’s Day on March 8, Sarawak Development Institute (SDI), Sarawak Unity Foundation (SUF) and a youth group Champions organised ‘Chill Out’.

According to Sim Ah Hua of SDI and also one of the organisers of Chill Out, they had been organising activities every Sunday from 4.30pm since October last year, and also providing all sorts of games such as skipping rope, football and Frisbees to encourage people to spend more quality time with their families as well as interacting with people of different backgrounds and races for fun activities and to make use of the Kuching Amphitheatre Park.

Among the activities prepared were kites, which were given to the children to play, bubble blowers, hula hoops, football, and jump-ropes.

The sight of children playing football, badminton and flying kites filled the park along with their laughter under the watchful eyes of their parents. Some even brought along their bicycles to cycle around the park.

On March 9, the organisers decided to add a little twist to their usual Chill Out Day by handing handed out pink roses to the women in the park. The small act of sweetness definitely put a smile on all the women’s faces.

And also in celebration of women, the organisers decided to hold zumba and aerobic dance lessons provided by three enthusiastic zumba instructors.

What makes the zumba and aerobic fun was, it was not only the women who joined in the fun, but men and also children also participated in the amusing and upbeat exercise.

In April, the organisers are planning something special for Easter Sunday, so feel free to drop by the Kuching Amphitheatre on Sunday to join in the fun they have planned.

International Women’s Day might have passed, but we do not need to set up a definitive date to celebrate women as they do amazing things everyday. So, if you haven’t done so, give your mother, sister, wife or girlfriend a kiss and hug and tell them how you appreciate and adore them.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the ladies out there!
