Themed ‘DBKU CARES’, this year’s Kuching City North Commission DBKU Agenda was held from Jan 24 to 26 here at the Kuching Esplanade, Gambier Road.

The annual event was themed DBKU CARES this year, and was held to emphasise cooperation and collaboration between the 3Ps – People, Public, and Private – as well as to intensify their relationship to people at the grassroots level.


According to DBKU commissioner Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, the DBKU Agenda is a continuation of the programme to make Kuching Clean, Beautiful and Safe (CBS) with the aim of building up Kuching as a ‘City with a Soul.’

“2014 is a challenging year as it is Visit Malaysia Year and DBKU has a role to ensure that Kuching is lively, dynamic and vibrant while ensuring that Kuching remains Clean, Beautiful and safe for both the locals and tourists.


“The participation and inclusiveness of the community in the city planning and development are not only vital to create a sustainable urban environment for future generation but also fundamental to instill the sense of belonging and ownership among the people.” he added during the launching of DBKU Agenda 2014.


DBKU CARES is DBKU’s  commitment and pledge to explore the lives of the local community, especially those in need.


During the three-day event, visitors were entertained with exciting activities which included street soccer, coconut bowling, and the most awaited DBKU Agenda Concert 2014 featured Akademi Fantasia favorite Bob Yusof; local Sarawakian talented singer Ir Radzi; Iban recording artiste Gabriel Fairuz Louis; Chinese singer David Tang, and popular 80s singer Salwa Abdul Rahman, as well as dance performance with the concept of Citrawarna 1Malaysia from the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKNS) and fireworks display.


Apart from that, 12 finalists from Jejaka Idola Berkarisma 2013 walked the catwalk in a fashion show later in the day: Rashid Ambi, 21; Azam Hassan, 21; Fiedarus Udin, 27; Al-Mohd Rudzie Mohd Al-Zamaluddin, 27; Mohamat Arziwan Amat, 27; Jackson Michael, 29; Ricky Kimwah, 29; Kevin Jala, 30; Muhammad Quazy Razali, 30; Linson Apoi, 31; Mohmad Syukri Joni, 32, and Azami Kipli, 32.


Other activities also included cupcake decoration, flower arrangement competition, chess competition, 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) competition, DBKU Double Open Darts Championship, DBKU Agenda Fun Ride 2014, and Instant Noodles Cooking Competition.


A blood donation campaign was also during the event.


A diverse range of private and government organisations held exhibitions during the expo where visitors were able to drop by numerous booths, and were welcome to ask advice, consultations and seek information on any matters involving the government and private organisations available here in Sarawak.
