Kek Lapis entrepreneurship a boon for local economy
KUCHING: Bumiputera entrepreneurs’ contribution to making Kek Lapis Sarawak a must-have at every open house and a take-home for every tourist has helped small and medium enterprise (SME) businesses become part of the pulse of the state’s development.
President of the Sarawak Kek Lapis Entrepreneur Association (PPKLS), Jamyah Pawi said that PPKLS has always tried to increase the income and socioeconomic state by providing platforms for business-minded individuals to develop their networks through sales and promotional activities.
According to N.7 Semariang assemblyman, Sharifah Hasidah, PPKLS has done their best as the main body responsible for lifting the image of the Kek Lapis into an icon for the state. By staying committed maintaining the quality, reputation, and the characteristics of the Kek Lapis Sarawak it gained recognition and acknowledgement by the Intellectual Property of Malaysia in 2010.
The recognition is seen as a special tribute to PPKLS, and it has become their responsibility to keep the brand of Kek Lapis Sarawak so that it is not arbitrarily used by other kek lapis entrepreneurs who are not members of the association.
Among other recent achievement by members of the association includes Anugerah Usahawan Bumiputera Harapan which was bestowed on Dayang Saidah, a very successful Kek Lapis Sarawak entrepreneur here in Sarawak.
“With the rapid techonological advances nowadays, we hope that more entrepreneurs will also choose to run their business where it sells and promotes items through the Internet as well as mail orders,” Hasidah added when officiating the Biennial Meeting of Sarawak Kek Lapis Entrepreneur Association at The Hills Shopping Mall on Dec 9.
PPKLS hopes that their success will be seen as an inspiration and motivation for other entrepreneurs, especially among the younger generations to get more active in entrepreneurship aligned with the strategic approach of Bumiputera Trade & Industry Community which has been implemented by the government.
