International Materials Symposium brings industry experts together


MIRI: Themed `Materials Technologies for Asset Sustainability’, the 2nd International Materials Symposium-cum-4th Regional Materials Technology Conference & Exhibition held at the Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club Miri was a great success.



The symposium and conference addressed issues and applications of materials technologies, as well as reflect on various aspects of materials research and development.



Industry experts and academic researchers presented papers related to materials and corrosion engineering, welding technology and inspection techniques.



The speakers included representatives from Curtin Sarawak, University of Nottingham Malaysia, Malaysia Nuclear Agency, Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Operations), Sarawak Shell Berhad, Stork Technical Services Malaysia Sdn Bhd, TNB Research Sdn Bhd, Control Corrosion Sdn Bhd, Netek IR System A/S, 1Norimax Sdn Bhd and Solvay Singapore.


The symposium was a collaboration between with the Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM), Miri Chapter and Institute of Materials Science (IMS) committee, supported by the Institution of Engineers (IEM), Miri branch and Curtin University of Sarawak Campus.


Miri IMM chairman, Ir Dr Edwin Jong Nyon Tchan, and the organising committee headed the event, assisted by members from Curtin Sarawak’s Dean of Teaching and Learning Associate Professor Dr Beena Giridharan.
