MBKS Lantern Festival celebration showcase of unity

KUCHING:  People of all races and all walks of life arrived at the Lantern Festival 2013 celebration jointly organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and Astro at Dewan Masyarakat here on Thursday.

Festival-goers arrived before 7pm looking forward to various activities lined up for the event including a traditional dragon dance and performance by the oriental orchestra of Chung Hua Middle School No.1.

Although the Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally observed by the Chinese community across the globe on the 15th day of the eight lunar month, here, the Malays, Dayaks and other races joined in to celebrate the occasion.

About 60 individuals worked their brains to come up with the most creative lanterns to win the contest. The organiser also held a kindergarten lantern parade competition during the festival.

Eight kindergarten groups from Tadika Sang Kancil, Tadika Sri Pintar, Tadika Chin Sin, Tadika Sarawak Buddhist Association (Group A), Tadika Sarawak Buddhist Association (Group B), Tadika Sri Permata, Tadika Smart Reader Kids (Tabuan Jaya Baru 2 and Uni Garden) and Tadika Kuching took part in the competition.
