Politeknik Kuching, Swinburne Sarawak hold meeting to discuss possibility of collaboration

KUCHING: Politeknik Kuching Sarawak and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus held a meeting to discuss the possibility collaboration recently.

The proposed collaboration will focus on the articulation of the Politeknik diploma graduates to degree courses, English language programmes for its students and the training of lecturers from the polytechnic.

The meeting was held between the director of Industrial Liaison, Graduate Employability and Alumni with the Department of Politechnic Education, Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education, Datuk Dr Arshad Kassim and the Swinburne Sarawak Government and External Liaison director Datuk Dr Julaihi Bujang.

According to a press release yesterday, the two institutions have agreed to set up a committee to work out the details of the collaboration.

“Also discussed are ideas on improving the employability of graduates,” the statement said.

Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, located in Matang, about 30 minutes from Kuching city, is one of the many polytechnics in the country set up to cater to the demands for more semi-professionals in the engineering, commerce and service sectors.

Swinburne Sarawak is the only international branch campus of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.

At the meeting, Arshad was accompanied by the campus director of Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, Clara Ong.

Also present were Swinburne Sarawak’s Registrar and director of Student Operation Division Hussain Taiban, and Business Development and Communication Division director James Ho.
