Miri City Council supports Curtin Sarawak open day
MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) has lent its support to the Curtin Sarawak Open Day 2013 on Sept 14.
Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai said this is because it is a major community event that attracts thousands of visitors annually, with over 6,000 visitors last year.
“I urge all Mirians to take advantage of the event to visit Curtin Sarawak and discover what it has to offer in terms of academic programmes, facilities and campus life. The university is, after all, an important part of our city and plays an important role in its continued development,” he said when receiving a courtesy call from the organising committee yesterday.
MCC will provide administrative, promotional and logistical support to the event, as well as sponsor 1,000 eco-friendly shopping bags.
Curtin Sarawak corporate communications manager Nicholas Leong said the open day allows prospective students and their families as well as the local community to visit the campus.
The open day will feature environmentally-friendly activities and practices in support of Miri’s goal of becoming a green city, with an Environmental Corner showcasing MCC’s Local Agenda 21 (LA21) programmes.
There will also be a Charity and Community Corner participated by non-governmental organisations during the event themed ‘Change something today that will make tomorrow better’.
Lucky visitors also stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes such as air tickets, flatscreen TVs, tablet PCs and smartphones.
Attractive door gifts will also be given on a first come, first served basis.
